In Charles Simics' essay "A reunion with boredom" he writes about how his life has change as a result of technology. He discuses how when the power goes out he is reminded of being bored in his youth. Simic writes,"Even so, looking back now, i realize how much i owe to my boredom." Simic means that during the times he was bored, he had an opportunity to read and be creative, to come "face to face with myself in a mirror." (2014,p.375) however, he suggests that these times are rare anymore because of our reliance on TV. The internet and other ways of communication.
I agree with Simic, now a days it is really hard to get bored. every time the power goes out, I am reminded of when i was back home. How I had all the time in the world to do outside activities with family and friends. It gets really hard to see people spending time together like before, because now we have so many different devices and so many different ways of entertaining ourselves that we rarely think on going out. like Simic would say "we are only puppets jerked this way and that way by whatever device we might think we are operating."
